Travis won the AMA 125cc Motocross Championship in 2000. In 2002 he moved up to the premier 250cc class, where he never managed to win a single race.

He also competed in FreeStyle where he attempted several new tricks such as the double backflip, the 360 ​​and the rodeo 720.

From 1999 to 2006, he competed regularly in the various freestyle events at the X Games, where he won seven gold medals in freestyle and a total of 12 medals.

He also won four Red Bull X-Fighters events between 2004 and 2007. He is remembered for being the first in the history of extreme sport to perform a full 360-degree turn or backflip while jumping on a dirt bike from a ramp, and for being the first and only person to manage to do a double backflip in this same situation.
